Group Therapy

We are stronger together! JustUs Health is working to heal the fractures our communities experience from oppressive forces. Our group therapies help lift each person in the room up so they can thrive. Here are the groups we are currently recruiting for:

Current Teletherapy Group: Healing From Religious Trauma
This group might be for you if you have had a fundamentalist or abusive religious experience (i.e. conversion therapy) or upbringing that is negatively impacting your mental health.  This can include lasting struggles with internalized teachings that negatively impact your self-worth, identity, sexuality, or relationships and difficulty adjusting to or grieving a loss of community, value systems, or core beliefs. People of all religious backgrounds are welcome. This group centers LGBTQIA+ experience but is open to people of all identities. This group will focus on abusive religious experiences but does not view religion as inherently unhealthy—if you still have a relationship to a religious or spiritual practice, you are welcome in the group.

Current Teletherapy Group: Mindful Healing From Trauma

Trauma can leave you feeling isolated and misunderstood. Our group will help participants engage with a confidential, safe community to learn, cultivate, and maintain mindful and non-judgmental ways of thinking. Each meeting will focus on a different symptom of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, providing a framework for folks to build new relationships with their trauma-related challenges. This group is for those struggling with symptoms of trauma, including (but not limited to): hypervigilance, shame, withdrawal, and sleep disturbances. Topics will include mediation and body awareness, and may not be a good fit for those who feel unsafe in their bodies or are experiencing psychosis.

Current Teletherapy Group: Supporting Each Other Through Grief and Loss
Disenfranchised grief comes when loss cannot be openly acknowledged or publicly mourned. This group may be for you if you are experiencing or have experienced disenfranchised grief from a death, a break-up, the loss of friendship, disconnection with family of origin, or more. Especially during these times of isolation due to COVID-19, connecting with others is essential for healing—our support group aims to provide the support and connection LGBTQ+ folks need to process grief and move forwards in life.

Supporting Each Other Through Grief and Loss Teletherapy Support group, meets weekly February through April 2021.

 

Upcoming Teletherapy Group: Mindfulness for Risk Reduction

This 8-session group is for people living with HIV looking for support around decreasing substance use or maintaining sobriety. Each week, we will explore topics of mindfulness and meditation to help you reach your chemical health goals. Some previous exposure to mindfulness practices will be helpful in this group.

DBT Skills for LGBTQIA+ People
*Currently Paused due to COVID-19

DBT is designed for people who experience on-going disruption and dysregulation in their lives. In the group, we focus on mindfulness techniques, interpersonal skills, distress tolerance, and emotion regulation. Each group will consist of 4-8 people who will meet two (2) times per week to learn and practice skills from these areas to help life feel well within your control.

 

Future Groups may Include:

  • Out-of-Control Sexual Behavior
    It’s time to rethink sex addiction and have honest conversations about sexual health. Join a group of people who are questioning their sexual behavior and how it’s impacting their life. This group provides a sex-positive, judgment-free space to explore some of the complicated ways sexual behaviors may be interrupting your life—move away from shame and move towards connecting with others!
  • Sex and Recovery
    Sexuality plays a role in your recovery! By discovering, accepting, and caring for your sexual health, you can experience deep healing from shame, guilt, and even trauma. This group is a safe space, free from judgment, where you can be honest, explore, heal, protect your recovery, create hope, and enhance your fulfillment with your eroticism.
